Our Man

The Seiko SKX009 is worn by Robert Redford's character, credited as Our Man, throughout the film's central survival ordeal aboard the yacht Virginia Jean in the Indian Ocean. It is seen from the moment he discovers the hull breach caused by a drifting shipping container, through his attempts to repair and save the vessel, during worsening storms, and after he abandons the yacht for an inflatable life raft and drifts through a shipping lane trying to attract passing ships.

The Seiko SKX009 is an automatic ISO 6425-certified diver's watch from Seiko's SKX family, powered by the in-house 7S26 self-winding movement. It features a 42.5mm stainless steel case, Hardlex crystal, a unidirectional rotating dive bezel, a day-date display at 3 o'clock, a 21-jewel movement beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, and 200 meters of water resistance. In All Is Lost, the watch appears in the blue-dial SKX009 configuration with the signature red-and-blue "Pepsi" bezel, worn on a navy NATO-style strap rather than the standard Jubilee bracelet often associated with the SKX009K2. The 7S26-powered SKX line was discontinued in 2019, so original SKX009 examples are now primarily found on the secondary market.
