Mary Maxim, the North American craft company founded in 1954, is the maker behind the knit design used for this cardigan; the screen-used version was adapted by the film’s costume team from Mary Maxim’s vintage Wolf Cardigan pattern first issued in 1959. The design is a heavy zip-front cardigan with a shawl-style collar, patch pockets, and stranded animal-motif colourwork, produced for the film as handmade replicas rather than factory ready-to-wear garments. On screen, the version worn by Ryan Gosling uses a cream ground with modified fox faces in place of the original wolf motif, matching the Project Hail Mary-specific variant later released by Mary Maxim as a knit kit. Mary Maxim has documented more than 70 years of pattern production and has sold millions of craft patterns across the United States and Canada.
